There are a range of services available in Cheshire East which support children, young people and their parents or carers.

Advice for Parents and Carers

Training

Parents can now access courses on a range of topics, including relaxation, breathing techniques, children's mental health, specific disabilities, and sensory needs at mealtimes.

Family Hub

Cheshire East Family Hubs is a service that provides a wealth of support for children, parents and families.

Three key priority areas have been identified to support families across the authority: emotional health and wellbeing; Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and deprivation.

The closest hub, running activities in our locality is the Monks Copenhall Family Hub in Crewe. There is also a children’s centre in Sandbach.

In addition to information events and activities. Targeted support is available for families via referral. Referrals can be made via school or self-referrals directly to the local hub.

Some of the programmes offered via referral include:

• SPACE - 5-session programme supporting parents and children's emotional wellbeing.

• HENRY - 8-week course developing awareness of healthy nutrition, impact of exercise and tackling childhood obesity.

• SMILE Group - Maternal mental health support - supporting families through the early years of pregnancy and parenthood.

Cheshire East SEND Partnership Local Offer Marketplace

To find out more about SEND services from across Cheshire East you could attend the SEND Marketplace drop-in. This will allow you to gain an initial understanding of what each service offers and then request more support at a future date. Our nearest events are held regularly at Monks Coppenhall Family Hub, Crewe.

For example: Tuesday 25th March, 17:00 - 19:00 and Friday 25th April, 10:00 - 12:00.

 

Solihull Approach

Residents of Cheshire East can access a range of excellent resources as part of Cheshire East Family Hubs partnership with the Solihull Approach; trusted NHS provider of online courses focused on children's emotional health and wellbeing. Online courses are designed to be accessed anytime, anywhere and are completely private and personal to you.

 

My Mind

My Mind :: Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust 

My Mind is a website run by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP). CWP provides NHS children and young people's mental health services (CYPMHS).  They support children, young people and their families in many different ways with their mental health and wellbeing.  On their website you will find advice, training for parents and carers, tips on how to help yourself and signposting to further mental health services.  

Mental Health Crisis Line

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s dedicated 24/7 all age urgent mental health helpline has a new Freephone number. The new number for the service is 0800 145 6485. An online support hub is also available at: www.cwp.nhs.uk/contact/need-urgent-help

 

Visyon

Visyon offers mental health support, free of charge, to the local community.  To get support parents or carers can call their Initial Contact Team on 01260 290000 (Option 1), 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 1pm on Friday. They will be able to support you to decide your next steps.

 

Ruby’s Fund

Ruby’s is a charity supporting children and young people aged 0-18 years old with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families and carers in Cheshire East. They run sessions and support at their centre in Congleton, on their mobile sensory bus, in homes and within other Cheshire East community settings.

 

The Witherslack Group

This website contains advice, webinars and resources for parents of children with SEND on a range of topics including anxiety, positive behaviour support, online safety and navigating EHCPs.

CEIAS: The Cheshire East Information, Advice and Support Team

CEIAS offer free confidential support and information to children and young people with SEND, their parents and or their carers. They aim to ensure that you feel more informed and are able to be fully involved in decisions relating to special educational needs provision.

IPSEA is a registered charity which offers free and independent legally based information, advice and support to help get the right education for children and young people with all kinds of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Koala Sleep Service

Koala supports families who have a child aged 2 to 11 years old, where poor sleep routines are having a significant impact on the whole family, often also resulting in learning and behavioural issues.

Regular Events for Children and Young People

Drop in group for families and carers who have a child or young person with additional needs.

Parents and carers drop in group is an activity group where parents can meet other parents who have children with additional needs, share concerns and advice. Ask questions and be listened to.

The Disco

The Disco session is a monthly chance for young people (5 to 18 years) with additional needs and their siblings to listen to their favourite songs, whilst spending time with their friends. There is plenty of space to practice dance moves and there will be opportunities to have a go at karaoke.

The Hangout

The Hangout is a fun interactive session where children with additional needs can play games, create artwork and enjoy mixing music. 

Children’s Yoga & Wellness Classes

Fun & Interactive Yoga & Wellness Classes for children using Stories, songs & games, teaching Physical & emotional education with Yoga poses, Mindfulness, Breathing & Relaxation Techniques
